Hand Dey Go, Hand Dey Come Project
・Type of Language : Pidgin Language
・Meaning : Essentially, as you give, so shall you receive—communal responsibly and reciprocation cycle having people to support each other and live in collectivity.
・Purpose and projection :The Hand Dey Go, Hand Dey Come project will be used to better the lives of individuals in Accra's second-hand clothing markets, with a particular focus on those living in Kantamanto and its surroundings, Accra's largest second-hand clothing market. WORKSTUDIO, in collaboration with the Ghanaian nonprofit organization Glimmer of Hope Foundation, has established the PANECO Scholarship Fund to support Kayaye girls who sustain themselves by carrying goods while living on the streets of secondhand clothing markets and other urban areas. This initiative aims to assist them in accessing education and rebuilding their lives. In the medium to long term, the project seeks to foster a mutual support system within the community that not only helps Kayaye girls but also contributes to broader systemic change. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political factors surrounding fashion waste, we aim to create a future where sustainable solutions emerge for the challenges posed by the secondhand clothing trade. Rather than shifting the responsibility for the global North-driven fashion waste crisis onto affected communities, our goal is to establish the necessary social support structures and infrastructure to address the issue in a collaborative and constructive manner.
